Disney has been at the forefront of family and media entertainment for ages now. Ever since its birth in 1923, Disney has continued to adapt and grow as different industries evolved with the transitioning economic milieu. Disney+ is one of the multiple online streaming services operating under the parent company, Disney, with the likes of ESPN+ and Hulu also functioning in the same industry. Disney+ is a much recent, more innovative approach of media entertainment which launched its operations quite recently in November, 2019. Its recent takeover over the likes of 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios has further broadened the content available on Disney+.
Despite being available in as few as 10 countries, Disney+ has made a phenomenal entrance into the industry, with corporate giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video acting as its competitors. However, it would be very remiss to shadow the fact that despite the established target market and the popular brand loyalty from their customers, Disney+ reported almost 10 million subscriptions within the first day of its operations and quite recently, has more than 50 million subscriptions in total. A number outweighing its competitors, in terms of the number of subscribers achieved on the first day of their operations.
Unlike many of its rivals, Disney+ did not have to transition from the conventional methods of providing home entertainment. Therefore, with advanced technology and expertise from Disney Streaming Services and the huge amount of capital and investment at the ready by its parent company, Walt Disney Company, Disney+ resonates not only the class but also the esteemed reputation of the ancestor company that has reigned over the home, media and family entertainment industry for almost a century now.
Disney+ provides almost 7000 TV series and about 500 movies from companies such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and since the recent takeover of 20th Century Fox, some films from that studio are also included. Boasting its range of options from 4K, Ultra HD, Dolby Atmos and 5.1 Surround Sound, Disney+ offers a range of quality options for its viewers to benefit from. With subscription plans as cheap as $6.99 per month, Disney+ is taking the online streaming industry by the storm, forming a stronghold in the service as it continues to broaden its horizons by providing additional number of titles and producing sequels to previous, award-winning content. Since Disney+ is a new entrant into the market, it is without a doubt one of the most unrecognized streaming platforms in the world right now, but Disney forecasts about 75 to 80 million subscribers by the year 2024. Its inferiority will indeed be short-lived as it climbs up the ranks due to the popular titles that its parent company allows them to stream, and the increasing demand for streaming services all over the world due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. With advanced expertise and further inexpensive subscription plans, Disney+ is indeed the future of online streaming services.
